Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what data Rate-A-Bench collects, how we use it, and the controls you have. By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.

What we collect

Account information you provide (email address, display name, optional avatar, date of birth used solely to confirm you are at least 13). If you sign in with Apple or Google and choose to share your name, it may be used as your initial display name; you can change it at any time in Settings. User Content you submit — benches, photos, ratings, comments, check-ins, bench thoughts — and its associated location data. Approximate device location only when you actively use a feature that requires it (finding nearby benches, tagging a submission).

How we use it

To run the Service: create your account, show the map and feeds, deliver notifications, and let you interact with other users. To moderate the Service: act on reports, enforce our Community Guidelines, and prevent abuse.

What we don’t do

We do not sell your personal data. We do not track your location in the background. We do not use your User Content to train third-party AI models.

Third-party processors

We rely on a small number of vendors to operate the Service: Supabase (database, authentication, file storage, in EU region), Mapbox (map tiles), Apple and Google (sign-in providers if you use them), and Expo (over-the-air JavaScript updates). These processors handle data on our behalf under their own privacy terms.

Photo & content moderation

Photos you upload may be automatically screened for prohibited content (nudity, violence, etc.) before they become visible to others. Reports submitted by users are reviewed by our moderation team and acted on within 24 hours.

Your controls

You can change your display name, avatar, and bench visibility at any time. You can block other users from their profile. You can delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete account; deletion is permanent and removes the content you created. To request a copy of your data, email us at the address below.

Children

Rate-A-Bench is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, contact us and we will delete it.

Retention

We keep your account data while your account is active. When you delete your account, profile and user content are removed; backups containing the data are rotated within 30 days. Moderation records (e.g. reports of violating content) may be retained longer where required to comply with legal obligations.
